Early Life

Michelle Tate and her husband Robert Schmidt reared Miesha Theresa Tate, who was born in Tacoma, Washington. She was a tomboy in her youth, frequenting playgrounds to interact with the boys in her area. 

Tate was looking for a sport to partake in while attending Franklin Pierce High School, and he eventually selected amateur wrestling over basketball.

From her freshman year till graduation, she wrestled for the boys’ team. In her final year of 2005, she participated in and earned the girls’ state championship. Tate was inspired to join the mixed martial arts (MMA) club by a buddy while she was a student at Central Washington University.

Meisha Tate battled Elizabeth Posener, a Muay Thai specialist, for the first time as an amateur in 2006. Her amateur record was 5-1 prior to turning pro. In 2007, she made her mixed martial arts professional debut. 

Tate was awarded FCF Women’s Bantamweight Champion in 2009 after defeating Liz Carreiro. She won the championship in 2010 after defeating Valerie Coolbaugh.

In 2008, she became a member of Strikeforce. She defeated Elaina Maxwell in her maiden match with ease. Tate was crowned Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Tournament Champion in 2010 after defeating Hitomi Akano.
